Binta Ndoye

Director General, Ecobank Mali

Binta Touré Ndoye is Director General of Ecobank Mali, a subsidiary of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI). Established in 1985, ETI is a pan-African commercial banking conglomerate that promotes economic and social development through increased intraregional trade and access to financial services. Ecobank Mali is one of the top banks in Mali in terms of assets and results. It has supported national development programmes including the Rice Initiative, cotton campaigns and a national university centre. As Director General, Ndoye has been a proponent of transparency, regularly inviting journalists to the bank to provide updates and answer questions about Ecobank’s activities. While acknowledging the disadvantages women face, for instance in gaining equal access to education and training, Ndoye has played down the challenges she has faced as a leader in the male-dominated banking sector. “Whether you are male or female, you must know how to succeed by your professionalism and expertise,” she said in an interview with Les Afriques magazine. “Insofar as these two values are highly respected in Mali, being a woman in business is no longer such an issue.”
