UEMOA creates a human rights network
On 6 October in Abidjan, the representatives of national human rights institutions of UEMOA member countries decided organise themselves into a network. The move will create a framework for discussion and exchange on all issues linked to the promotion and protection of human rights within the UEMOA region. The network will look at themes such as: the respect for human rights, access to justice, education and issues related to migration and refugees. During the first year, the current President of Côte d’Ivoire’s National Commission on Human Rights, Namizata Sangaré, will direct the new UEMOA Network of National Human Rights Institutions (RINDH-UEMOA). She urged her peers to combine their energy and lay the foundation for collective and effective action in order to promote and protect human rights in the UEMOA region.
